Silence. That was all that was present in this eerie place. The fae moved slowly, her gait lilting and smooth, making it seem as if she was floating over the ground. Each time one of her hooves touched the ground, small particles of black ash were blown into the air. Even in a dark place such as this, it was still arid and dry with the summer heat. However, none of this seemed to faze the femme that resided here. Her dark, liver chestnut coat blended in well with the ashen trees, but her silky, flaxen mane stood out like a beacon. Silvery blue eyes looked ahead, but were unfocused and not really paying attention. Her harks weren't perked in alertness like a wise horse's would be, but instead rested back, nearly against her head. There was no sense in her trying to use them anyway.
Her thin, lithe form simply glided through the desolate area until she reached the haunting sight of the eleven aspen trees. Without any sort of hesitation, the mare moved in between two of them, stopping in the small, shady clearing they created. She could rest here in the shade for a bit, to cool down before continuing her endless journey to nowhere in particular. Sleek, thin pistons held her body up proudly, but it was lost on her. With neck down low, nares nearly touching the ground, the mare glanced around with a bored expression. She did not sense any others near, and so slowly tucked her pillars under her body, laying down under the shade of a large aspen tree.
Powdery optics hardly looked around as her eyelids drooped halfway. She could afford to rest, especially since she had been up the entire night before. Night. That was her name, or what her name embodied. Nyx. Nyxerin, the title she had been given upon her entry to this world. And what a suiting name it was for the mare. She may not have been black as night, but she possessed a closer relationship to the night. Both were quiet, always there, mysterious, and harboring secrets that may never be found out. Nyxerin snorted quietly, rousing from her rest for a moment before calming down again, unaware of everything around her.

Kalix rolled his shoulder bones back and forth as his protected palms carried him down steep and rocky hills. His long tan tail raised behind him. Ears held perfectly still. His marked face had no expression held upon it. His shoulders rolled again as his legs extended. He finally hit the end of the hill. The flat earth began to form. His legs still extending as he walked. Kalix purred as the sun hit his fur. The rays burning his eyes from the inside to the outside.
After a few minutes of walking painlessly he stopped infront of trees arranged to form a circle. But on the other side was a mare looking at the same thing. Silently Kalix moved his elastic body around each tree. Hidden by the foliage underneath the branches. He was in shade and it hid his appearance. As he crouched to the ground and crawled closer to his prey he then leapt out with claws snapping out. His jaw clattered. His lungs letting out a large roar.
His eyes seemed to glow against the mare. Her appearance didn't stop him from noticing her. He was here for food. Living or deceased, either was still in the category of food for him. His teeth ready to lick the bones of the beast fae.

At first, Nyx had noticed nothing, instead lost in her own thoughts as she rested. With her hearing being a liability, the dark chestnut fae had to rely on a special sixth sense she had gained in return for her loss of hearing. The unfortunate part was that this extra way of being alert to the world around her wasn't always the most reliable. So Nyxerin didn't notice the predator until just before it's attack.
The last thing she saw was dark eyes gleaming, focused on her. That was the last thing the mare remembered before instincts and pure adrenaline took over. She twisted on the ground, attempting to stand quickly without giving an opening for the big cat to get at. Of course, this method wasn't full proof. So as Nyx managed to stand up to her full height, the mountain lion still managed to scrape his large claws across her flank.
Silvery blue eyes narrowed in anger as she turned to face the predator, harks laying flat against her skull, disappearing in her flaxen mane. She snorted, focused on the beast while still trying to be alert to the world around her. How stupid she had been to not be more careful. Nyxerin snorted angrily at the cat, pawing at the earth with her dagger like hooves, daring the cat to make one wrong move.
The femme wasn't the tallest, nor the strongest horse around, but there was hidden muscle under the dark pelt. She'd put up a fight, because giving up wasn't an option. Smoky eyes watched the lion intently, identifying his every move, and making her own. She needed to be careful, because if she let her guard down for just a moment, it would leave her open to attack, and make her much easier prey. She couldn't let that happen.

Kalix fell over, his back on the ground. But he managed to finally get balance with his claws grasping on the earth once more. His eyes widened and his teeth showed. Hello mare...prepare to die, I need food! Kalix said with tense motion. His paws no longer rested deep on the ground, instead they were light so he could move swiftly and steadily. His head turned, his eyes looking at the red filled scar dented on the mare. It brang back an instant vision of when he was young and got a scar on his hip. Good it healed. But it was showing how strong he was to fight at such a younger age then others.
His ears pinned back against his miniture skull. One on one was easy. But if more horses approached, Kalix would have a deadly chance of winning. He was taking the risk though. He snared at the mare. His eyes setting on every future move she could make. He spoke again. Show me where meat is....located at your neck! Kalix said with his deep rattling voice. He clawed the ground and licked his paw. My claws and I are ready whenever. He said as he looked back up at the mare.

Nyx's focused gaze turned into a malicious glare. “Careful there lion,” she hissed out, “your eyes are bigger than your stomach. I'm more than what I seem.” Even as she said this, her voice was still quiet and almost bored, except with a hint of malice hidden there as well. Her hooves danced against the ground, never staying in one place for long. If she was going to save her skin, she'd have to fight back, and show this mangy animal that he wouldn't find an easy meal in her.
As the cat commented about her neck, she slowly snaked her head down, nearly level with her attacker's eyes. Now he would have a harder time finding her veins and arteries, and she would have an easier time countering any attacks that involved the predator jumping at her. “You underestimate me, I thought your kind were smarter than that,” she said, sarcasm dripping from her voice as her lips tugged up in a smirk. That was when she made her move, quickly dancing to the side, she lunged at the cat. Bringing her front hooves up, she aimed to slam them straight down on the mountain lion's back, not holding back.
