Dry, brittle grass crunched underneath the small mare's dainty hooves. Each hoof stepped lightly, as if despairing at hurting the grass at all. It was a dry day, not hint of moisture lay in the atmosphere. No cloud to block out the sun, nor to produce even a hint of precipitation that would quench the land's thirst. The sun just beat mercilessly upon the scorched earth as it deemed fit. It also burned into the silver pelt of the little filly that walked along, alone.
She was lost, in a way, yet not really. She had no where to go, no other equines to see. She just walked along in her delicate way, lightly placing dainty hoof before dainty hoof. Her dark, striped legs churned forward, her dark faded head held low. She needed some shelter, and she had yet to find it. This sun was burning her up, drying her out, just as it had done to the grass.
Yet that was all she was to the world, a blade of grass. Dead grass. She had no meaning here, because she had no stiffness. She did not hold the crispness of a healthy blade of grass, as the other mare had said. No backbone. Therefore, she was useless to the world, and just another body that had no meaning. So she was left to die.
But she hadn't died. She must have a meaning then, right? Zaire hoped so, but she needed proof. Maybe proof would come, or maybe she would dry up like the grass, and be useless.

P A T T O N
The large sun burned through the thick and humid air. The grass was crinkled beneath my hooves. I felt a crunch every time I set a step on the dyeing earth. It seemed like it was taking the longest breathes and the sun would never set anytime soon. Something needed to keep my mind busy for until the halt of the day. When the clock turned I was getting worried that antoher mare was getting claimed from a stupid stallion who did not care for their beauty. But just for the addition in their herd. Which really annoyed Patton. It was a major issue to him. No mare shall be claimed that way. And certainly not with a nip! With the simple question and answer. How it should be played out. So I, Patton am going to show all the dumb stallions how it should really be done. And to make it better there was a mare right down the hill i'm standing on and across the meadow. With no breathing stallions around her. Which made this task even easier.
I trotted down the hill with a small float in my strut. My hooves lightly prancing up and down off and on the ground beneath me. And each second, each step I was getting closer. I tossed my skull up and gave out a whinny. My tone bright and joyful. My cremello body getting closer to the creature. My mane and tail flowing with the wind. And my pace still smooth and calm. I finally came to a halt before her and bowed down. Hello, my name is Patton. Lead of Dust Lake. How may I take your service? He said with no rumble or crack in his deeper tone. He didn't want to fright the poor thing.

dark gray hooves placed themselves in front of the other as i walked through the meadow. i was bored. i didn't have anything else to do so why not go for a little walk. ha ha. too bad thats not what i was really doing. i was scouting for equines to bring into my herd. obviously. but so far, i couldn't find any members. some of them were only slave material and i didn't want espada crawling with them. they would get annoying after a while. as i walked, i caught the scent of the stalliion patton and another mare. a smirk lifted my maw. maybe i could go cause some trouble with his little seduction process. i followed the scents until i came upon the two and i was slightly suprised when i saw the mare. she looked quite a bit like me. funny.
well lookie here. how 'ya doin' patton? long time no talk. i said, sarcasm dripping from my lips like poison. i turned my ice blue eyes onto the mare. first time i've seen a smaller, female version of myself. interesting. i mused, a smirk lifting my handsome face.

Surprise hit the delicate mare as the scent of a stud hit her nares. A stud? Here? In this desolate of a place. Her dark lined ears swiveled atop her head, focusing on the sound of his hooves. The shrill sound of a whinny hit her drums forcefully. She had not heard such a loud and joyful sound in a long while. She swung her dainty bod around, her dark striped spindles of legs moving in a slow motion. Her dark mane trimmed in creme swung around her in a fan motion, framing her graceful neck. Her dark orbs watched him with curiosity and fear. The fear had been pounded into her, the curiosity was natural.
My my he was putting on a show for her. Flaring his tail, prancing upon his strong legs. She was not used to this. Already she was uncomfortable. As he made his way closer, her head lowered into a submissive posture, her already small body becoming smaller. She gazed at him, watching wide eyed as he bowed to her. Why would he bow to such a lowly creature such as her? She stared at him for a moment, disbelief clouding her mind. Her maw opened to answer. I-I'm Z-Zaire. her voice stumbled and stuttered, like it always did. Then, the unthinkable happened.
While her attention was occupied with the showy white stud, another had arrived. Her head whipped to look at him, still staying low. Her dark brown eyes were wide in shock. Two stallions here? For her? It was unbelievable, unthinkable. How could this have happened? This new one, a larger, stronger, darker version of her spoke to the other stud by name. So they know each other? Was this some kind of set up? Her eyes went back and forth from one to the other, worry filling them. Then, of course, the new stud's eyes went to her. Zaire felt his gaze drift over her, examining her. She didn't know what to do. So she would wait and see what the studs did.

Patton snorted as he saw the appearance of the known stallion. He stood aside. Eyeing both of them. Maybe Patton should just claim the mare now. Patton reached out and stepped near her. He was side to side with the mare. Zaire, do you want to live in Dust Lake with me and the herd? Patton whispered quietly so only Zaire could hear the hidden conversation. Then Patton's eyes set back on Grimmjow. Why do you keep following cowards like me? Are you trying to join the group? Patton said with a chuckle coming out his mouth. He dipped his head down and shook his mane and then lifted his neck back up.
Patton looked at the stallion then back at the mare. They had resemblance. But Patton wanted the mares to come with him. He already had three members and more. Now to add one more to the group and leave Grimmjow by himself like the loner he really and truly is.

a laugh left my lips when he asked why i would be following cowards like himself. i took a look at the mare. i wouldn't feel safe going to live with a coward, my dear. i said softly, my voice rather tender. no, patton, i'm simply out enjoying a nice summer walk. i said, faking innocence. a smile lifted my lips, only adding to my handsome expression. my blue eyes went back to the fae, and i flicked my ebony tresses. but go ahead, deary. live with a coward. i'll be awaiting you with open arms if you need a really equine to protect you. i said to her, a grin lifting my mug up off my ivories. as i passed in front of patton, i flicked my tail so it swiped across his nose.

The light colored stud stepped closer to her, right beside her, causing the delicate mare to tense up. His harsh whispers filled her ears, lulling her. That sounded nice. A herd. One that she would be welcomed into, loved in. The want tugged at her, the want for a family, for love. Her deep brown eyes stared at the white stag, hope welling in them.
But then there was this other one, this Grimmjow as it were. Something was also tugging at her to go with him. She was sure his words promising protection held true. One look at him told of his story, his fighting prowess. He could really protect her. And something about his demeanor, his easy way of talking and acting made her want to dash off with him in wild abandon.
Indecision racked the dainty mare. What to do? Should she go with this stud that looked like her, or the one that approached her first? Her eyes traced from one to another, back and forth, eying both of them. Which one would be better? Which one would treat her better? Her already small body shrank, the weight of this decision weighing on her. She didn't want to choose. Not only that, she didn't know who to choose.
The fem's thin legs took her closer to the white stallion. Her voice whispered, barely loud enough to hear. I... I-I'll go w-with you, P-Patton.
Please make this be the right decision.

patton smiled with delight. all of the mares words made him spring with joy. but then he looked back at the dun stallion. she chose wisely. patton said twisting a smile at the male dun. then back at the fae dun. welcome into the herd! patton said greeting her as he stepped away. if grimmjow disagreed on the mare's disision and took her anyways, patton would just steal her back. without the deformed piece of shit knowing. the stag would probably be looking for more mares when i just came in a stole the mare back to her true, wise leader.
